Determining and arranging academic accommodations is a joint partnership between the student, faculty and the McBurney Center. The McBurney Center determines if a student qualifies for services as a person with a disability and then makes recommendation to faculty for reasonable academic accommodations. Ultimately, the faculty member decide if the recommendations are appropriate and do not fundamentally alter the nature of course. If students disagree with an accommodation decision they can appeal through the
Student Disability Accommodation Appeal Process. Per
Faculty Document 1071 (May 1994), "the instructor should provide the best possible accommodation until the situation has been reviewed through established appeals processes. "
