McBurney Updates

  • McBurney Staff Update:

McBurney welcomes new staff member Lisa Webne-Behrman who will be working in a part-time, interim position with students with learning and psychological disabilities.

Jennifer Wersland will be temporarily assuming the accommodations specialist role for students who are Deaf and hard of hearing.

McBurney will be working this year to fill permanent positions left vacant by the resignations of Candi Vincent and Nicole Soukup. We wish both these former staff members all the best in their new career endeavors.

  • Test Accommodations Update: Make it easier for faculty to provide your test accommodations. Refer them to the new Test Accommodations Faculty Web Page.

  • McBurney Speakers Bureau Update: Volunteers will be recruited this fall for a new McBurney Speakers Bureau being formed to do outreach and educational activities on campus and in the community. Students selected for the McBurney Speakers Bureau would participate in a variety of events: guest speakers for UW classes with disability components; student panels for faculty and staff training sessions; speakers at area elementary and high school classes; etc. For more information, please email McBurney Speakers Bureau.

McBurney Reminders

  • Submit requests for notetaking services. Students should submit all notetaking requests by the end of the second week of classes to receive notes from the first day of class forward. If you submit a request later, you will receive notes only from the day of the request forward.

  • Submit requests for interpreting and captioning services.

  • Need help with issues like time management, notetaking, organizing papers and projects, and preparing for exams? Make an appointment with McBurney's Study and Learning Skills Specialists!

  • Accessibility Advocates, a registered student organization (RSO) whose mission is to make the campus a more accessible and welcoming environment for students, is recruiting members for this year. New students who are interested in the organization, and former members who'd like to continue participating, should complete the Accessibility Advocates Interest Form. Visit the Accessibility Advocates web page or email Accessibility Advocates to learn more about the organization's goals and activities, as well as leadership positions available this spring. One of Accessibility Advocates' goals is to ensure that all registered student organizations receive training on how to make their organization accessible and how to request funding for accommodations from Associated Students of Madison (ASM). Please email Accessibility Advocates with the names of registered student organizations that you plan to participate in who would benefit from this training.
